The MAGA Base in Brevard and Indian River counties understand that we need an independent Outsider In Florida Seat 8
It is becoming clearer and clearer the Republican MAGA base in Brevard and Indian River Counties understand that we need an Independent Outsider in Florida seat 8.
At last night’s Brevard County Executive Committee meeting you could also feel and sense it as the vast majority of members walking in last night were onboard with the John Hearton campaign! The base is tired of career politicians, the Republican Establishment and Lobbyists that are the personification of Hearton’s opponent Michael Haridopolos!
Here is another grassroots endorsement we found for John Hearton that reflects this sentiment.
Our representatives make a difference!
Over the years, we’ve seen how important our elected officials have been…or haven’t been. I’m reminded of county commissioners who stepped up to help us communicate with our neighbors and with the state and federal levels of government. IRC paid for their lobbyist to push our concerns in Tallahassee and for expert consultants to respond to the corporation’s Draft Environmental Impact Statement.
In the beginning, we had both Martin and Indian River counties working to stop the trains or make them safer. We had state representatives and senators putting heat on the Governor and FDOT including passing a bill to fund the FL Rail Safety Study. This valuable document has proven accurate from the start and is still today.
I’m reminded of our help from three congressmen in particular, Bill Posey, Brian Mast and Mark Meadows, who called for and orchestrated a congressional hearing on the Tax Fee Bonds approved for the corporation by the US DOT. As it came to light in the hearing, Congress never meant for the tax-subsidized bonds to be used for this type of railroad project.
That fact didn’t matter when the issue went to the Supreme Court in an appeal paid for by county residents ($100,000) and the IRC. The appeal challenged the interpretation of the US DOT bureaucrats that the project qualified for the Private Activity Bonds. The problem is the Chevron doctrine, which grants court deference to agency interpretation…read that – the administrative state makes the laws not Congress! The Court didn’t hear the case.
In the early days of the DeSantis governorship, he told me personally “the state won’t give them a penny.” Well, that’s not held up since, under the pressure of literal deaths, FDOT has given them $thousands in grants to fix problems. As we said then and we do today…we’re paying for this “private corporate” nightmare in more ways than one!
So why am I giving you this history of our government relations efforts? It’s time to vote on everyone from our President on down. We will not give up trying to make the trains safe, but we can vote for a more responsive government which won’t let this happen anywhere else in the country. We also know from experience, we need elected representatives who will fight the administrative state!
One very important election is for our congressional representative. Over the years, Congressman Posey offered a modicum of help including most recently working with us on a letter to demand PHMSA (Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration) conduct a study on mitigating the impact of Haz Mat carried by FECR on the lagoon in the case of a breach…inspired by the East Palestine disaster.
I, personally, have not been happy with the way Posey left the race and felt Sen. Mayfield, among others, should have had the opportunity to run for the seat. I also feel strongly we don’t need a politician/good ole boy, lobbyist and ‘anointed one’ thrust upon us at the last minute. That’s why I’m supporting John Hearton for the District 8 seat. He’s NOT a politician, he’s a successful businessman, principled conservative and not owned by anyone.
