Ron DeSantis pushes for open carry in Florida 

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has led the charge to pass a raft of conservative legislation in the Sunshine State since he took office in 2019. 

He has had to nudge the RINO-controlled legislature to make sweeping changes. 

The RINOs in the legislature launched a revolt against DeSantis after he called a special session to pass legislation to assist President Donald Trump in his plan for the mass deportation of illegal aliens. 

Instead of trying to help carry out Trump’s important agenda, the RINO leadership of the Florida Legislature called its own special session. 

They came up with a fake immigration bill they called the Trump Act which took away power from the Governor and turned the Agriculture Commissioner into the top immigration officer in Florida. 

Agricultural interests have been pushing back against any crackdown on illegal immigration because they like cheap labor. 

Florida’s Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson is soft on illegal immigration. 

DeSantis used the battle over illegal immigration to challenge the RINOs in the Florida Legislature to pass another piece of legislation that has been high on the conservatives’ wish list, open carry. 

Florida is one of the few states in the county along with New York, Illinois, and Washington, D.C. that prohibit open carry under any circumstances. 

“Would be great to see it hit my desk — Florida needs to join the overwhelming majority of states and protect this right,” DeSantis wrote on X responding to a video about open carry. 

Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis chimed in with her support for open carry. 

“It’s time for the Free State of Florida to join other states in enacting open carry! Sounds like a great priority for our GOP supermajority. This is the year,” Casey wrote on X. 

Sheriffs are on board for open carry 

RINO Florida State Senate President Ben Albritton (R-FL) is opposed to open carry because he claims the Florida Sheriffs Association is against it. 

DeSantis responded to a video on X of Gun Owners of America Florida State Director Luis Valdes talking to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey about open carry. 

Ivey thought that Florida’s sheriffs had changed their minds about open carry. 

“I would say that if you asked that question probably five or six years ago, that number would be a lot lower, but now I think the majority of them — I don’t know the exact number — but I think that the majority of them stand with me in that recognition that we need open carry,” Ivey said. 

RINOs in the Florida Legislature have shot down pro-gun bills in the state because many passed sweeping gun control after the 2018 Parkland shooting. 

Valdes thought the opening was there for legislators to flip on leadership. 

“One of the issues that we have faced in getting open carry and any other pro-gun bill pushed through has been legislative leadership opposition to it and threatening rank and file lawmakers,” Valdes said. “But I think now with the massive groundswell of support that the lawmakers as whole have seen with the people supporting Governor DeSantis, I think that they might break away from leadership and introduce the bill and push it themselves.”
